A Fun Winter Weekend Part 1 - Tubing at Perfect North

Regular E, Sara and my Mom got in around 5 am on Friday morning. After a few hours of sleep, they began their first day of Cincinnati Winter vacation. We decided to head to Perfect North Slopes to go tubing, since the chances of seeing real snow were going to be pretty slim while they were here. Perfect North makes their own snow from a nearby lake, provided the temps are cold enough. Fortunately, it was freezing for a few nights, even though the daytime temps were kind of up there. I think we were up to about 65 degrees on Monday!

It was kind of fun driving to the slopes...everyone kept doubting that the snow would be there because all you could see was green grass and brown trees. No snow anywhere in sight, until we arrived at the slopes!

The high that day was projected to be around 53 degrees, so of course, the Southerners got as bundled up as possible and we headed for the slopes. You'd think they were expecting sub-zero conditions, with the layers upon layers of clothes, hats and scarves!

The snow was a little slushy because of the high temperatures. After a quick bathroom break and receiving our tubes, we were on our way up the conveyor belt for our first downhill run:

We had a blast! We went down the girlie hill first, and quickly graduated to the larger hill. Even Archie went down all by himself! Here is an overview of the tubing area. It was fantastic, because on Friday, during the work/school day, there was NO ONE there! We pretty much had the place to ourselves! No waiting in lines, no obnoxious people...a slice of heaven!

We were able to link up our tubes and slide,so Regular E took this picture of Sara on the downward slide:

After a little while, when the 50 degree weather began to kick in, the Southerner's clothes began coming off one layer at a time. First hats, then scarves then coats and gloves. Below are various pictures of our tubing adventures:

Around 3:30, when our tickets expired, it began to pack out. School had gotten out, and I think people were gearing up for the Friday Night crowd. After a quick tour of the ski area, and watching the skiers and snowboarders do some cool tricks on the ramp area, we left. Unfortunately, we hardly made it out of the driveway of the ski place, when we came upon this:

Some delivery truck had driven into a field and couldn't get out. When we got there, the diesel tow truck was trying to pull it out. So we waited and waited. And waited. Finally after about 40 minutes or so, the truck got unstuck and we were on our way again.

We had dinner at home and a cut-throat game of Uno Attack!, which lasted until midnight! It would've lasted longer, but Sara decided to let Morgan win the game by forgetting which colour she was holding! Thanks a lot, Sara!

We had a very busy Saturday, chock full of gambling and a visit to the winery, so look for that post soon!
