Happy Second Birthday, Lawrence!!!!

On Sunday, August 29, we celebrated the second anniversary of the day life got really interesting busy wonderful!  The birth of my sweet Lawrence!

Phillip just returned from a mad 24 hour dash to and from Mobile, so he was exhausted.  The rest of us went to church.  After Phillip rested and Lawrence had his nap, we headed to the park in Sharonville.  I've never been one for the overpriced birthday parties at Jump Zone, the Huge Pizza-Eating-Mouse or any of those type of places.  I'm more of a do-it-yourself kind of birthday gal.  So we invited one other family to meet us at the park for an easy parkday with cake.  I made cupcakes that afternoon.  It was a good thing I didn't do them too far in advance because Lawrence could hardly WAIT to get his hands on them.  He said, "cake, cake, cake, CAKE, CAKE, CAAAAKE!!!" the whole ride to the park!  Since it was HIS birthday, we decided he didn't need to wait any longer to get his caaaake.  He got an advance sample!

Look!  Stalactites!

Fortunately Susie and her family showed up soon and we were able to sing happy birthday!

We had a great time playing in the little creek in the park.

For some reason, he kept wanting to take off his clothes.  Here he is fussing about that.

Lydia had a good time at the birthday party too!

After we got done at the park, we went home to do gifts and grill dinner.  No our livingroom doesn't usually look that messy.  Or maybe it does.  It depends on who you ask!  Lawrence got lots of neat loot!  We Skyped my Mom and Dad so they could watch Lawrence open his gifts.  He was really funny!  He wanted to put on all the clothes immediately upon receiving them.  The monkey pajamas in particular.  Mom and I, always thinking alike, got him the very same pair of monkey jammies (not the ones pictured here).  He especially liked that they had 'ooh, ooh ooh ee ee ee' shoes.  Hmmm...that didn't write well.  He doesn't say 'monkey'.  He makes monkey noises when referring to monkeys.

Phillip was driving back to Cincinnati when I bought the tricycle.  Sometimes, when kids are young, you can get away with buying their birthday presents while they are with you in the store.  Which is what had to happen here. Archie helped keep his attention elsewhere while I was at the checkout.  While we were shopping, I noticed that Lawrence was VERY taken with the large drive-around kid cars in the back of Toys R Us.  In particular, he loved the Cadillac Escalade.  It had a real working radio to which he bobbed his head to the music while he was 'driving' it.  When we left the store, he was screaming car, car, car CAR, CAR, CAR, CAAAARRRRR, PWEEEASE CAAAR the whole way home.  Unfortunately for him, he wasn't born into the family who can drop 400 bucks on a toy car.  Nor do we have the space in the garage for a car for a kid yet.  Sorry Lawrence.  He does love his 'ride', which is what he calls his tricycle.  He thinks it's pretty cool that he can ride bikes with Archie now!

I put the tricycle together with Archie's help the night before Lawrence's birthday.  It was done with surprisingly minimal bad words uttered (yes, there may have been one or two) and is still holding together here a week later!  Hurrah!
