Hey there, Mr. Grumpy Gills. When life gets you down, do you wanna know what you've gotta do? Just keep on swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim! ~Dory (Finding Nemo)

West Side Parade

Our neighbors invited us to attend a parade in our community with them. I wasn't even aware of a parade! Apparently, there is an annual parade which takes place the Thursday after Labor Day in our community of Westwood. Phillip was wondering what in the heck all the lawn chairs were doing lining Harrison and Cheviot Avenues. Folks put up their chairs sometime last night or today in preparation for the parade. The parade is the opener for our community Fair. We have a community fair?? Who knew?

We had a great time at the parade this evening. We were able to walk there, so no driving in crowds. Our neighbor had pre-set his chairs along the parade route so we were all set! It reminded me a bit of the Reds Opening Day parade, but on a smaller scale. There were businesses, organizations, marching bands, dance schools, all marching or riding. The parade was extremely long, so after the kids got antsy, we headed to the Fair grounds (we can walk to that as well) to see them putting the horses and such away and to see the fair folks getting ready for the weekend. All the displays weren't ready (the Fair doesn't start til tomorrow) but we were able to get a glimpse. I can't tell you how cool it is being able to walk to all this great stuff from our house!

It was nice visiting with our neighbors and I know Archie really enjoyed playing with his new friend.

I will be missing the Fair this weekend, as I will be attending my cousin's wedding in Detroit. Archie and I will leave tomorrow morning. I will be borrowing Morgan's camera, so hopefully I'll have some pictures to show for our adventures in Detroit this weekend!
