Curtains and a St. Patty's Day Rant

We didn't have much excitement this weekend; it was just a lazy, lay around kind of weekend. I put up curtains AGAIN in Archie's room because one day a couple of weeks ago, he was standing on top of the toybox and almost fell off. Except the handy-dandy curtain he grabbed kept him steady. So the curtain rod broke. I've been wanting to get new shades for the windows anyhow. The blinds we have on there came 'with the house' when we moved in and are quite a pain to make go up or down. So after a leisurely trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond all by my lonesome, I purchased some Alabaster coloured Roman Shades. White, for guys like my Dad who only know primary colours.

Once again, normal people would be able to install these suckers in 15 minutes at the most, but it took me all of Sunday afternoon. But they're up with minimal bad words uttered and the curtain rod was replaced and the curtains are back and better than ever. Archie was very pleased with the result and gave kudos like "You did a really good job, Mama!" and "That looks really nice!" No one has ever complimented my efforts as much as he did. And it did look good, if I do say so myself!

Monday was St. Patty's Day. I don't know if I have any Irish background or not, but St. Patty's has never really held much appeal for me. I don't love drinking all that much...I mean, I enjoy a cocktail now and again, and having a couple of cold ones on the weekend is nice on occasion, but I've never really cared for St. Patty's as a holiday. Plus, I don't drink at all while pregnant, so it was just another day for me. I even forgot to wear green. Cincinnati is a bit of a beer town. People are a little snobby about the kind of beer they drink and we have a few local breweries here in town. I'm guessing Cincy loves beer because of the German influence. Apparently before prohibition, we were chock full of German breweries. But we never quite recovered to pre-prohibition days afterward.

So apparently the St. Patty's celebrations began at 7:30 IN THE MORNING in Fountain Square downtown. Now who in the world would want to stand around in 31 degree weather drinking green beer or Irish whisky at 7:30 in the morning on a Monday??? Who??? Don't these people have jobs? I almost wish I would've taken my camera down there to take some photos, but it was early. And cold. And I just don't care too much! So I was satisfied to receive my obligatory pinch from Archie because of my lack of green clothing and get all the rest of my cleaning and laundry done.

As for Tuesday, it rained and rained and rained. I found where we had a leak, since we've been doing our home improvements. So I guess knocking the wall down was a blessing, because probably this leak had been going on for some time and it was never detected through the plaster. Hopefully it'll be a simple fix...I've got to wait til Phillip comes home from Paducah to find out. Right now, I'm using towels to keep the drips to a minimum. Unfortunately, it will be raining all day on Wednesday as well.
We have a very busy Wednesday planned with car repairs, library story time, school, etc. so I'd better get some sleep!

Congrats on getting the new curtain rod up and all by yourself at that! I'm impressed! I'm all thumbs when it comes to chores like that.
So sweet of Archie to appreciate his mom's efforts on his behalf. It's nice when they appreciate us, isn't it?
