Oh, The Weather Outside...

We had our first bit of decent snowfall yesterday, last night and today. Previous to now, we've had at most, maybe three inches or so. Three inches is still fun to sled in and play in, but twelve or more inches is a BLAST to sled in and play in. The weather people have been predicting this snow storm all week to begin Friday morning. Thursday afternoon, I had to run to the grocery to do my weekly purchases and found it just packed full of people scrambling for the last spark plug or whatever. It was almost like hurricane preparation conditions! Which is weird, because even if we lost power, or the roads were not passable, there would only be bad road conditions for maybe a day. So why does anyone need to 'stock up' on food? I could see perhaps making a trip down the beer and wine aisle, but really other than that, just regular groceries would do.

On Thursday night, I called Phillip in Paducah, KY to let him know about the impending storm. I was really concerned that he might get stuck there for the whole weekend. So I went on and on, because he doesn't watch news, so I figured he didn't know. As it turns out, after asking the 'right' questions. He was on his way home, and was trying to surprise me. But I asked to many questions and he ended up telling me he was on his way!

Friday morning, the snow started around 9 or so. Morgan still had school, because apparently, our district has used all their 'snow' days and is reluctant to close school unless really unavoidable. Phillip stayed home from work, so we had a nice day watching the snow blow around and listening to the news people trying to create a panic out of something that wasn't as scary as they were trying to make it out to be. This is what I did all day Friday...

I laid on the couch and manned the fireplace! A relaxing day, indeed! Archie and Phillip played a cut-throat game of Monopoly, where Archie was really beating Phillip to a pulp, but a street repair assessment card cost Archie all his money, then he landed on the somewhat upscale housing area of Phillip's and it wiped him out. As you can see, the right side of the fireplace has sheet rock and the left side is STILL bare! This is a bum weekend for home repairs, because it is hard to get out and get materials.

So we got about three inches of snow on Friday and more was expected Friday night and Saturday morning. If I understood the news people correctly, they classified this as a blizzard! Once again, their definition of severe weather and mine are totally different. It was a lot of snow...and it wasn't safe to drive around...but to me, it wasn't what I think a blizzard is. I was hoping to be awake during the 'blizzard-y' part, because I wanted to go in the yard and check it out. But I fell asleep.

Saturday morning, I woke up and looked out the window. There was a nice amount of snow out there! After Phillip woke up, he went downstairs, got a snowball, brought it back upstairs and threw it at me while I was still in bed! Nice, wasn't it? It snowed all morning and into the afternoon. We got up around 11 or so and had a nice leisurely breakfast of pancakes and bacon. Then it was outside to play! I took some 'nature' pictures before we sullied up the snow with too many footprints and playtime!

The boughs of this evergreen were weighted down with all the snow!

This is what my car looked like...You can't even tell what kind it is under all that snow! Incidentally, it is a Saturn Vue, and not NEAR as tall as the snow makes it appear!

This is a picture of me at the bottom of our sledding hill in the back yard.

The trampoline looked really neat all weighted down with the snow.

I love the way the trees out back look with the snow on them. So pretty!

Here are Phillip and Archie. Seconds after this was taken, Archie pushed Phillip down the hill for a sled ride.

Here is Morgan making a snow angel.

We walked up to the Walgreens to check out the neighbourhood. It was kind of fun watching people attempting to drive and sliding around. I'm not sure WHERE folks needed to get to today...almost all activities and stuff to do was closed or canceled! You can see how deep the snow was here. I'm not sure who enjoyed rolling around in it more...Phillip or Archie!

After we left Walgreens, we headed back home to dry off, start a fire in the fireplace and warm up. I was exhausted (as usual) so I took a nap. Phillip went out again after a while to shovel snow around to prepare for some more snow adventures for the next day.

The sun came out after the storm left the area this evening. Here is the truck. The back of it which was totally empty at the beginning of the storm is chock full of snow! I took the picture from the second story window:

This picture, also taken from a second story window, is of Phillip shoveling the walk and drive way.

Here's a nice picture of our backyard, after the sun came out, and shortly before it set for the evening.

Since our below-freezing temps will remain tonight and tomorrow, we are looking forward to another playday in the snow.

Wow! Really pretty, but it looks soooo cold and miserable.
