Hey there, Mr. Grumpy Gills. When life gets you down, do you wanna know what you've gotta do? Just keep on swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim! ~Dory (Finding Nemo)

Mother's Day, The Zoo and The Reds

I have been feeling uninspired and unmotivated of late, which makes it hard to write. So as an update of sorts, I will post some pictures and captions of what we have been doing lately.

I guess our most recent event was Mother's Day! Archie's regular thing is to make breakfast in bed for me. However, he was just coming off a low-grade fever the previous day, so he still wasn't feeling great. He and Phillip made cinnamon toast and juice and we all filled my bed with toast crumbs!

I know the deal for Mother's Day...It's not all about me. It never is, after you have children. So fortunately I shopped the day before for my Mother's Day menu: Steak! I have had a serious steak craving for good while now, so when I saw the t-bones and porterhouses on sale at the Kroger, I figured it was meant to be! Some people like to go out on special occasions. I like to grill out. I love sitting around with my family, not worrying about being anywhere, perhaps an adult beverage, perhaps not, just watching the kids play.

My dinner:

My steak was enormous! We had strawberry shortcake for dessert. It was a lovely day, perfectly sunny, 70ish outside. We grilled the steaks and spent the whole day outside. Archie made a beautiful necklace and ring, made out of copper and glass, that he made in his homeschool art class. In an upcoming post, I will photograph all the cool stuff he's made in art and clay classes to show. Morgan got me some roses and they all gave me a funny card. It was a very nice day for me!

Sometime in April, Archie and I decided enough of the boring reading and writing. We were going to the Zoo! Zoo Blooms was in full swing (a showcasing of all the early spring flowers, namely tulips). They had a reptile special going on, and I thought I'd include this photo, just to make my Mom cringe:

And this was a special occasion, because it was Lawrence's first Zoo trip!! Here he is too busy to smile at the camera because he is checking out the hyacinths:

It was a very nice trip to the zoo, complete with a viewing of the manatees and a whirl on the carousel for all! In the insect house, love was in the air.

We went to a Reds game in late April. Archie really enjoyed his cotton candy.

Lawrence had to think about his. But not too long!

Some of us had blue tongues before it was all over.

During the inning changes and commercials, they have activities, either for the kids, or for those who have enjoyed one or more of Great American Ballpark's fine adult beverages. Archie participated in the Cheesy Dance, where you do a silly dance and they might put you on the jumbo-tron. Archie didn't make it to the jumbo-tron during the cheesy dance, but I thought he was very screen-worthy! As you can see, we had way too many 'grown-ups' in our section!

How every game should be watched: With a 'dog in one hand and a glove in the other.

Lawrence did fairly well during the game. He even took a snooze for a few innings! I've gotta say yet again, nothing tastes quite as good as an ice cold game day beer. I missed out last season because I was pregnant. So while Lawrence slept, I was able to enjoy mine. :-)

It was a very good game, even though the Reds lost in the end. I sorely miss Ken Griffey Jr.'s theme song "Soul Glow" since he has moved on this season to another team. *sigh* However, Brandon Phillips' theme song , "Do the Stanky Leg" is now my personal favourite!
