Hey there, Mr. Grumpy Gills. When life gets you down, do you wanna know what you've gotta do? Just keep on swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim! ~Dory (Finding Nemo)

I hate holiday crowds

Since Morgan was heading for Kings Island on Sunday, I decided to take Archie to A Taste of Cincinnati, a downtown festival of sorts, which features several local restaurants' food samples (for a price, of course) with several musical acts and activities. We did okay getting a parking place and finding the festival. It was a bit crowded and loud for my taste, but it was okay, I guess. We ate lots of different foods (mostly desserts) and enjoyed ourselves when we could step out of the crowds and into the shade. The upcoming kids' movie, Ratatouille had quite a few kids' activities sponsored by a local Kids' cooking school. We watched some movie clips in a makeshift movie theatre and Archie got to slide down one of those big inflatable slides. They had a little show going on, which Archie participated in the conga line and had a blast. I took some pictures. He really got into the music and dancing, as you can see below!

He wanted to take a picture of me at the fountain, and here it is:

By the end of the day, my stomach was feeling quite ill (too many sweets, I think) and I had to drag Archie away from the Ratatouille display kicking and screaming so we could go home.

Right after leaving the parking garage, I hesitated for maybe a second at a redlight that had just turned green, trying to get my bearings. Actually trying to read the road sign. I'm still prone to getting lost quite a bit! The agressive jerk-face behind me immediately began honking, yelling curse words out the window and the classy babe in the passenger seat was giving me the finger. I was very tempted to remain right where I was and get out to ask them what in the heck their problem was, but I guess that's the stuff shootings are made of. So I opted for smiling and waving in a friendly manner (sometimes kindness is the most effective revenge) and went on. The incident really ruined the whole day for me. Archie kept asking why those people were being mean to me. It made such an impression, that he even prayed that we'd not see those mean people when we went out again during his nighttime prayers!

Who would behave like that in reaction to a second's hesitation at a redlight?? It makes me wonder if they would've slashed my tires if I took their parking place or cut them off in traffic or something. I don't know why I took that so personally, but it really bothered me.

In the South, you get the occasional road rage person, but all in all, people are much more laid back as far as driving goes. Usually a finger warrants something more serious than a one second hesitation!

The driving public is in such a hurry up here and everyone is so aggressive! The speed limits on regular roads (when you're not on the interstate) are 35 or 40 mph just about everywhere in Cincinnati. So it's not like anyone's going to get anywhere any sooner by being obnoxious. Even at Morgan's highschool here, everyone's cutting in and not being courteous. Just how much faster is anyone going to leave school by being jerks?

I remember even when I went to Baker in Mobile, everyone kind of waited their turn and were always okay with waving someone in who'd been sitting for too long. And it was the same when Morgan was attending there.

I guess I still move at a different pace than everyone else up here. It's not like I sat there and stared aimlessly for fifteen seconds...it was a moment's hesitation!

Anyhoo...we stayed home all day today (Monday) and did laundry and boring stuff like that. There was a church down the street that was having a carnival, so Morgan went there for a couple of hours with a friend from school. Archie and I rode our bikes up the little side street beside our house. There's a church at the end of the road, and we rode bikes in the church parking lot. It's great because it's got gradual hills on it, so they're not too hard to bike up and you go really fast going down. I've really got to get my own bike. The seat on Phillip's bike is quite painful after a little while of riding and it's not the right size. Perhaps I'll look into that right after we move. We will be living in a neighborhood with sidewalks on which we can ride our bikes!
