My family is searching for a house. The one we are renting...well...it has some problems and was also a temporary arrangement when we first got to Cincy in February. We found a great house after much searching, searching, and searching. I think I've been in about a hundred houses in the northern areas and western areas of Cincinnati. We finally found one on which we both agree (Phillip and I). I like the old houses with their "character" and he wanted one on which he didn't have to constantly repair and make adjustments. We found an 80 year old brick home that is in terrific shape! We are in the "waiting for our mortgage company" stage of the purchasing procedure. We completed inspections today and found some neat "character" items that we didn't know about on our first two visits.
One of the closets in the master bedroom has a false backing which opens up to an attic-type area which has a small room-like area toward the back down a "hallway". We didn't see this before because we didn't use flashlights. Anyway...my five year old Archie says to me, "Look, Mama...we can put lots of Jewish People in there!". Now I know that sounds weird out of context, and the inspector probably thought we were really kooky.
Several weeks ago, I read Archie a book about two boys-one Jewish and one non-Jewish who became friends and it takes place during the Holocaust. It's called "Willy and Max, a Holocaust Story" by Amy Sugarlittle. This book really opened a dialogue between us about this terrible period of history. It was a great book for his age group. He had a lot of questions after the story and I think he really felt such empathy for those of the Jewish Faith that had to endure the horrors of the Nazis.
I can't believe that he correlated the two today--the attic room with the Jewish people during the Holocaust--after such a period of time and so many books later. We read *A LOT* of books in a week.
It really touched me today that he had the thought and desire to help hide the Jewish People from the Nazi regime and thought that the "secret" room would be a great place to help hide people.
Homeschooling is so great!!

O.k. that story totally gave me goose bumps. I am so glad to here from yall. I thought you changed your e-mail address since the move and i have been asking leigh that when she talked to yall to get your new address. Anyways I'm glad that your new chapter in life is going so good. This is such a neat idea to keep everybody up to date on your family. I've actually joined my space just to keep up with all of Misty's drama but these blogs are such a neat idea. I'm just not very crafty, or my life is just too boring to have one myself.
love yall
and will talk to you later.
