Hey there, Mr. Grumpy Gills. When life gets you down, do you wanna know what you've gotta do? Just keep on swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim! ~Dory (Finding Nemo)

Our New House

Moving time at last! It's been such a long time since I've seen my pictures and wall quilts and such! We decided that we'd like to refinish our hardwood floors before we moved in. If we didn't do that now, we probably never would. Fortunately, my Uncle Chris is here from Russia for the summer, and we asked his expertise and assistance in this undertaking. We would've been lost without him! After sanding, sanding, sanding AND sanding, we finally finished with the last coat of polyurethane on last Saturday night. The floors were absolutely stunning! I'm so glad we went to the trouble and expense to get them done! We decided not to stain the wood, so we have light wood floors. I could not be more pleased with the result! The kitchen really had a good result because it was beginning to blacken and the wood definitely needed sanding. The natural color of the kitchen floor is just beautiful.

I was exhausted and very sore after taking on this project, but it was well worth it. Actually, I feel I had the better end of it, because I worked with Chris on the floors, and Phillip took over the move. He got all our stuff in the basement and garages.

Here's some house photos. This one is the living room and fireplace before the floors were done:

This one is after the sanding, but before the polyurethane.

This is where we keep our Jews. If you're confused, read my past post entitled "A Place for Jewish People" back in May. The closet in the master bedroom has a false back on it and it opens up to a little "attic" type room.

And here is a picture of it opened. It turns to the left behind the wall and has a room at the end behind the master bedroom. Kind of an odd space. But it adds to the character of the house.
Archie really likes the milk chute (still works) and the laundry chute (also still works). The laundry chute gets used on a daily basis as a shortcut from the top floor to the basement for toys and stuffed animals. I'm wondering how long it's going to be before we have something get stuck. The milk chute currently has a fuzzy caterpillar living in a container inside it, courtesy of Archie. It apparently is more convenient to move the caterpillar inside OR outside without having to open any doors when the caterpillar has a mind to be indoors or out.

Well...darnit...apparently my other house pictures are on the desktop computer instead of the laptop. I will post maybe tomorrow. I am too tired to change computers now.

Phillip got called back to boring old Paducah again the day after we moved most of the big stuff. His parents came up to help me move things in the house from the basement. And, of course, we saved the really, really heavy stuff for my Dad-in-law. Chris came over to help us and his help really made such a difference. We got way more done than I had expected!

Archie's room is all set up (thanks to Linda and Morgan!). I'm still sleeping on my queen mattress on the floor of my room because we're supposed to get a new bed soon. Morgan is getting our bed and she's going to use the water bed mattress rather than the regular mattress like we did. We have much of the kitchen set up and the furniture is set up in the living room and dining room.

During the move, we met our new neighbors. My heart just soared when I saw their 4 year old little girl!! She and Archie have become the best of friends. A few nights ago, Archie asked if he could walk her home and she told him, "That would be so kind of you!" That reminded me a bit of the scene in Airplane! (the movie) where the boy and girl are having coffee on the plane.

The neighbours seem really nice here and it's great that everyone seems to socialize during yard work, dog walks, etc. I'm so glad that Archie has finally found a friend and hopefully I'll get some friends out of the deal as well!
