You may have noticed the change in appearance of the blog...an inspiration brought about by a look at my friend Candy's blog. You know me...I like to be in with the kool kids...
On Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, Phillip took Archie hunting. Yes, hunting. I don't have anything against hunting. I have a problem with spending tons of money on something they might never do again. Or go on hunting trips so infrequently, that all the equipment purchased will rot in the basement, or get forgotten about, or will get broken because it got stepped on trying to get to something else.
So I've been skeptical of this venture from the get-go. The boys have been checking out bows at the Bass Pro Shop, online and whatever. Archie has a bow that he got for his sixth birthday. Nothing fancy, just a regular set of bow and arrows. Phillip could not fathom going hunting with only one bow, so he had been shopping. He finally picked out something. We saw it at the Bass Pro Shop one night and went the following day to get it. It was sold. So we took that as a sign that it was not meant to be a purchase for us right now.
So when we got to Mobile, the first thing Phillip wanted to do was go 'run errands' by himself. I figured something was up because he was pretty vague about where he wanted to go. So he returns with a rifle. Great. I was praying no one would shoot their eye out. Just like Ralphie's Mom. I failed to mention that we brought two guns down with us. *And* Archie's bow and arrows. So we *really* needed this third gun. Especially to shoot at squirrels! I don't think I have ever had so much fire power in a vehicle before. I don't know what I would say to an officer if I got pulled over.
Officer would say: "Do you have any weapons in the vehicle, Ma'am?"
I would say: "Oh, um...yes...You may want to write all this down...There's the shotgun. And the bow and arrows. Oh, and the hand gun as well. Oops, I forgot...the new rifle." No, we don't live on a compound with thirty of our closest friends and relatives...yet!
So the boys go hunting with Phillip's brother and his son. Here is a photo of them stalking their prey.

The boys had a nice trek through the woods, then got rained on and returned cold and muddy and fortunately squirrel-less! I think they enjoyed themselves and if I am not mistaken, Phillip is planning to go again when we go back to Mobile. I told Phillip previously that if he shot something he had to eat it. Since my cookbooks lack recipes containing squirrel, he would be responsible for doing all that. He said he'd just soak it in Dale's Marinade. Dale's makes everything taste good!

Run poor squirrels, run!
funny....my little man-crew loves to hunt and we have spent lots of $ on all he "stuff" but fortunately, rarely a week goes by without my 3 guys packing up and going to the camp for a couple of days to use what we've bought. :)
Not to mention the little extra peace and quiet around here :)
