I don't know what's going on here. For some reason, the interior of our house has been attracting big, stupid houseflies. We are not harboring any dead bodies (that I know of, anyway), nor are there any dead animals lingering. I don't know how they're getting in. Since my neighbour scolded me last week, the door has been closed. We have open windows, but they all have screens. I remember this happening for a week or so last summer. So perhaps it's seasonal. Fly season...Yuck!!
The flies are huge! Much bigger than Southern houseflies. They're stupid because they don't move quickly. I have massacred copious amounts of flies with rolled up newspaper to no avail. They gather on the inside of any sunny window, buzz around there until they get tired, then start dropping like...well...flies. I am trying to be vigilant cleaning up the fly bodies because Lawrence seems to enjoy putting anything gross in his mouth. I can't do pesticide for the same reason. Hopefully fly season will pass quickly. At least it's not scorpions, eh, Laura A.????
My cat is currently getting her exercise (and her vitamins) catching them. They are creeping me out because there's so many of them.
Another one down...Another one down...Another one bites the dust! Gotta love cats who earn their keep!

Ewww.....your description reminds me of some movie...I think the "Exorcist" where there were tons of flies gathered at windows.
I will spend hours trying to swat and kill flies. Flies are one of my most despised creatures after I learned they vomit on everything they land on....maybe they are just a step above the stinging scorpion.
hee, hee...we're going through termite swarm season. I LOVE that my cats enjoy the sport of not only catching but consuming what is caught.
Oh...and the Misquitos SUCK, too...HA. Sorry, couldn't resist.
Those of us with livestock know about fly predators:

Alex doesn't think they work but I can tell a difference in the fly population between releasing predators.
