Michigan Honeymoon: Paul and Anita's Wedding

So the original intent of my family coming all the way up here to Cincinnati to see us was to attend a couple of family weddings. The surprise one took place here in Cincinnati between my brother and Sara. The day afterward, we all packed into my car and headed to St. Clair, Michigan to attend the wedding of my Mom's brother (my Uncle) Paul and his betrothed, Anita.

I had previously never heard of St. Clair, but it's a charming little town, just across the river from Canada. You could see Canada from the hotel, which was located along-side the St. Clair River. Spittin' distance. I spent lots of time wondering what was it about the location of a river that was the difference between people saying normal American stuff versus 'eh?' and 'aboot' all the time. (About, for those who don't speak Canadian!)

These first couple of pics were taken at the rehearsal dinner. Here is my cousin, Andrea's new baby. Why is my brother ALWAYS holding a baby? Is he trying to tell us something?

Lawrence looks a bit buzzed here. Too much food and too much people.

The hotel was very nice and the wedding was really fun. It was supposed to be an outdoor wedding, but wouldn't cha know it, it rained! So it was a very crowded, standing-room only wedding in the hotel lobby.

I won't post any pics of the actually ceremony itself because in every danged picture I took, Paul was closing his eyes! I would hate to give the allusion that he slept during his vows!

So here is Archie and my Dad:

Archie was practicing a bit of sword-swallowing at the reception. You know, the little tiny plastic ones that come in your drink that holds the olives.

Everyone loved Archie's hat. Uncle Tom will be proud he made the blog because he tried it on. However, he doesn't pull it off as well as Archie does!! Uncle Tom, being the Mean Little Man, just doesn't have that...je ne sais quoi that Archie has...

Me and my dance partner for the evening. Carrying an extra twenty pounds around on my chest ALL evening long while dancing, socializing and wearing heels was absolutely exhausting!

Paul and Anita danced a beautiful Tango as their first dance. It was absolutely gorgeous! There were probably several women in the room who decided then and there that they would be tango-ing for their first dance too! It worked!

Marty and Sara. Marty looked a bit like the waiters when he took his jacket off.

Here, I had finally danced my little partner to sleep. Archie wouldn't dance with me very much because he says he's a 'dance by himself' kinda guy. Huh? Apparently I was cramping his style.

Mom and Dad. By the end of the week, I think Dad had danced all dances required by him to dance for the next ten years or so. Got 'em all outta the way in one week!

Doing the YMCA. This was later in the evening. As you can see, Archie has removed the debonair hat, tie and vest and has commenced to boogie.

An interesting observation made by Archie: We were sharing the hotel room with my Mom and Dad. Lawrence and I got tired close to midnight during the reception, so we went to the room to go to bed. Regular E showed up with Archie shortly after that and went back to the party. So when Archie, Lawrence and I went to sleep. My parents hadn't made it back to the room. Interestingly, when we woke up the next morning, we didn't see them in bed. Archie asked if they were STILL at the party! Hmmmmmm......Those party animals!!!

I took some photos before leaving St. Clair. You can see Canada behind us, across the river. Eh? What's that all aboot?

Marty is dipping his toes into Lake Huron. It was cold.

We're getting ready to move on to the next leg of our journey. G'bye Almost Canada...On to the great community of FARMINGTON HILLS, MICHIGAN!!!!!!!
