No, it wasn’t any untoward reason, not knocked up or anything of the sort. The speedy wedding had more to do with Immigration issues—getting Sara’s citizenship going. It’s tough to change names once you get that sort of thing started and citizenship stuff can take years to complete. So if she wanted to be referred to as The New Mrs. Logsdon, she had to get going soon.
I was sworn to secrecy, except I immediately called Phillip the moment I got off the phone. My first thought was relief—relief that it was Friday and I don’t usually talk to my parents over the weekends. I usually do that on Mondays. So at least I didn’t have to worry about spilling the beans on this huge wonderful secret!!
In the end, they told my folks that night, and I was no longer in danger of blabbing. *Whew!*
There was much debate on how they were going to marry…Justice of the Peace Courthouse-style, or Internet Wedding Dude. Where they were going to marry, as they were due to visit Cincinnati two weeks after this occurred. Or in Mobile, or Biloxi Elvis-style.
In the end, I had arranged for my Minister at the church we attend to do a short service in the parlor of the church. It was wonderful! On Thursday, August 6 at 4:00 they were officially getting hitched! Kathleen did a wonderful job and made the ceremony special and non-courthouse-like. It was intimate and beautiful and I think it worked out for the best.
Here they are receiving their marriage license from the courthouse here in Cincinnati:
We celebrated with a Servatti’s Opera Crème Cake at my house directly after the ceremony. Don’t know what makes it Opera Crème, exactly, but it was different and tasty, two of the most important elements I was seeking when shopping for this cake for them!
Some pictures from, during and after the ceremony:
You may kiss the bride!
The wedding party on the church house steps. Archie was the Ring Bearer and insisted on wearing the bowler. He looks a bit like a little Jewish Rabbi to me. Very cute!
In front of my house:
This is the reception we had at Henke Winery. Every time we go to the winery, Sara ends up pointing her finger across the table at people in that funny way she does when she's had a couple of glasses! :-)
Where the wedding took place:
The wedding night was spent on my couch bed. I did get curtains for the occasion and even installed them so they wouldn’t feel peeped in upon by the neighbours. High class all the way!
The next day we were all off on their honeymoon to Michigan to attend the non-secret weddings. Things were great, great some more, then shenanigans ensued. Then things were great again. More to come.
