A little stream, frozen and covered with snow.
Phillip thought I was a big dork for throwing sticks on the ice pond to see how far it would slide. Until he did it and found out how neat it was!!!
We enjoyed a couple of snowstorms over the past two weeks. Snowstorms are very much like hurricanes in that people go absolutely bananas thinking they will run out of food, water and any other necessities. Fortunately, my new grocery shopping system had us prepared just fine, so we were able to watch everyone else on the news fighting over the last sparkplug. When all was said and done, Westwood (our neighbourhood) ended up with almost a foot of snow. 11.8 inches or something. We had a lovely time playing in the snow the following day. Here are some pictures:
This one was taken during the storm.
Everything had a layer of ice all around it. Cars, trees, porch railings, outdoor furniture, everything. We couldn't open the car doors because of the ice.
All the tree branches were bent down to the ground with ice and snow. This is the purple tree out back.
Sleddin' time!
Just a shot of our backyard. The boys were walking up to the house.
Me laying in the snow. There was a nifty layer of ice within the snow due to the ice storm we got overnight. Then more snow that morning. So it made a cool ka-crunch sound when we walked!

Which eventually morphed into this:
So after a few hours, and when our feet were half-frozen, we took it easy by the fire for the rest of the day!
These were on our front porch...The stalactites and stalagmites met and formed a column! How cool was that??? It was so cold out that they didn't feel wet to the touch at all. They felt very smooth like glass and dry.

I liked the idea of pulling the sled by the bike..I bet Archie made Philip do that one over and over again. :-) I guess there's not much more you can do with the snow but enjoy it while it's there.
I love the stalagtite/stalagmite icicle meeting too.
Fun pictures...looks like ya'll had a great time playing. Isn't walking on the water the coolest!?!
I remember how much fun it is to watch the snow coming down and enjoying the fresh fallen stuff. My least favorite is when it gets all yuck and dirty and lingers for weeks.
I guess we must be dorks too because we also throw sticks across our frozen pond to whose will go the farthest, haha. I wish we would get 11 inches of snow. The best we have had so far is about 3 inches. It was still fun, but I am glad it doesn't stay around for days.
Love the shot taken during the storm....beautiful, but cold ;)
The icicles are awesome and the sledding looks like too much fun!
