The Horrible, Horrible Candy Caper

While we were at Jungle Jims, my Mom bought some candy from the Holland area of the store. In the car on the way back, she passed out the candy. I declined, as well as my Brother. Everyone was silently eating their candy for a while. After a minute or so, my Mom says she didn't like the candy. Then Morgan is frantically searching for the candy wrapper. My Dad puts the window down and spits his out the window. Archie and my Mom get rid of theirs too. Then Regular E says he'll sell a taste of his Coke for a dollar to get rid of the taste! Archie told my Dad that he littered because Dad spit his candy out the window! It apparently was horrible tasting candy.

Well, this candy was the gift that kept on giving. My Mom, in true Mom fashion, took the candy to Old E to give as a gift. Old E asked Archie if he wanted a piece, and Archie says "No thanks" and ran away. Not walked. Ran away! You know candy is no good if a five year old won't eat it! And of course, Old E and Ann tasted it, and spit it out as quick as everyone else. Their kids also got some candy, and got rid of it just as quickly.

When we got back to Cincinnati, Mom's family came to visit. And the candy made an appearance. It was an interesting sociological experiment.

My cousin Mike, who doesn't like to be inconvenienced much, was by far the quickest to spit out the candy. He was so quick that hardly anyone knew he spit it out. My cousin Greg, in the Marine Corps, was by far the manliest of the crew. He ate his candy til the bitter end. And it got worse...much worse the longer he ate it! My Uncle Bill quietly slipped his in his pocket. I don't even know if he even ate his. My uncle Chris, who never wants to hurt anyone's feelings didn't make a fuss, but you could tell he thought it was gross. Finally, my cousins told him to spit it out, that everyone else did (except Greg, of course!) My uncle Tommy said it tasted like poo...salty poo. Which my cousin Mike agreed. Which makes me wonder...why do they know what salty poo tastes like??

Everyone's true personality was revealed by the candy test. We easily found out who was the most disciplined of the family! (And Greg, if you read this...the fact that you ate that terrible candy all the way to the end made me respect you a little bit more!) We know who worries about what others think and who doesn't. We know who in our family is most likely to make money off others peoples' misery. (cough, cough Regular E cough!) And finally, it revealed who got the most enjoyment out of other people's misery (I'm not naming any names or pointing any fingers, Mom!) If you taste something gross, by all means share it with everyone!

Mom says it was the best two bucks she ever spent! The goofiness of it probably doesn't translate well in the blog, but it still makes me smile when I think about it!
