Hey there, Mr. Grumpy Gills. When life gets you down, do you wanna know what you've gotta do? Just keep on swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim! ~Dory (Finding Nemo)

Some Mama and Daddy Time Off

My parents took the kids back to Mobile on Tuesday of last week when they left Cincinnati, so we had some much needed R&R! I was so excited, I hardly knew what to do first. I got absolutely nothing accomplished on Tuesday after everyone left, other than a nice 'ladies' day. I soaked my feet and did my nails! I read some magazines also. I felt a tad guilty for accomplishing so little, but one non-productive day never hurts!

Wednesday, I rode out to do some Father's Day shopping, but that was it until Phillip came home from Paducah. Thursday we had a very busy day, which made up for the past two days of loafing off! We closed on our house (yipee!!) and went to a car show in Sharonville. We had a good time and I enjoyed myself very much. There was a guy with an exotic pet, so I took a picture of it against his Lamborghini:

When I asked the guy what kind of cat it was, he told me, but in a very bored voice as if to say, "What, this old thing?" I know he probably gets asked all the time, but I figured surely he wanted the attention or he wouldn't have brought it out in public. Incidentally, it's an African Something-Or-Other. The guy seemed really bored and I couldn't understand the last word. I didn't bother to ask him to repeat it. Anyhoo...I did pet it and I figured Archie would've loved to see it. It was a beautiful cat.

After the car show in Sharonville we went to the drive in movies for the very first time! We had an excellent time! Two movies for 8 bucks! It's hard to beat that! The show began around dark (9:30 or so) and Shrek 3 played first. After that was over, there was about a 30 min intermission and then Pirates of the Caribbean played! Pirates is quite a long movie, so we didn' t make it home until after 3 a.m.!

The drive in was well kept up and it was nice to see all the families in attendance. I'm not quite sure what I was expecting, but I was very pleasantly surprised. We want to take the Vue the next time so we can open the hatch and put some blankets down. It is really nice to have this opportunity available for those of us who missed the Drive In Generation. Here's a photo of us enjoying ourselves at the drive in:

I had to take a picture of us, so that's why it's so close up. For those who don't know what one looks like (I didn't) here's a picture at sunset, with Phillip standing there:

One of the best features of the drive in movie was that the audio came through an FM frequency and you control the audio through the car speakers! I hate going to the movies when the audio is up way too loud. And if your car had decent speakers, it sounded like the regular movie theater.

I liked that the beginning of the movie, before the actual movie showed...It was the 50s - 60s era dancing popcorn and coke and how to behave at the drive in. They even showed a Tom and Jerry cartoon!

One of the more humorous parts of the evening was when the drive in guy got on the loud speaker during intermission and was really going off about people making sure to not be late to the movies. He had one heck of a rant!

Friday we went to the Reds game and began our journey to Mobile after the game. We drove all night and slept most of Saturday.

More on our adventures in Mobile later.
